Poroaidan molemmin puolin - Both sides of the reindeer fence
Pulkkatunturin muristassa, rajavyöhykkeellä muutamien kymmenien metrien kaista poroaidan ja rajalinjan välissä hohtaa. Poronjäkälä peittää harvapuustoisen muristan maan. Poroaita on pitänyt. Talvilaidunten riittävyys on muuten voimallisen porotalouden varsinainen pullonkaula. - Kuva 9.10.2005.
The reindeer fence in Pulkkatunturi fell, between the Finnish reindeer husbandry pasture and the country border between Finland and Russia, has been effective. Behind the fence (where reindeers can not go) the lichen dominated ground shines as white. The ground in front of the fence is totally different; the reindeers have eaten almost every lichen. The sustainability of winter pastures is a real bottleneck for otherwise vivid reindeer husbandry. - Photo of 9.10.2005.
